Research shows that more and more people are using their smartphones to make purchases. According to eDigitalResearch, more than half of U.S. phone users have a smartphone, and 38% of them have made a purchase from their mobile device. eMarketer estimates that U.S. mobile commerce sales will reach $17.2 billion by in 2013, up from $3.5 billion recorded in 2010, and grow to $31 billion by 2015. At the same time, eConsultancy just reported that 37% of consumers think most mobile sites are difficult to navigate, and 38% said they'd abandon a mobile site if it's hard to use.
"Search is a critical part of the overall shopping experience, especially on mobile sites where screen space is so limited," said Jen Morris, brand manager for U.S. Toy. "We knew we needed to get our mobile site up and running quickly, as we were seeing more and more customers on the mobile platform. SLI helped make the process seamless and easy, and we're now seeing great results from their work. We expect to see visitors staying more engaged with our mobile site and converting at a higher rate when they use the search box."
"With so much growth in mobile shopping it's critical that retailers create an optimal experience for customers using their mobile devices," said Terry Costa, vice president of marketing for SLI Systems. "Our own survey data from the end of 2012 showed that half of respondents had not yet embarked on a mobile commerce strategy, so we're working closely with clients to help them understand the importance of taking this necessary step as soon as possible – while delivering a site search solution that makes it really easy to find what they're looking for when they're using a smaller device."
