More than 1,000 Miamians Have Secured .MIAMI Domains Ahead of Launch
Pre-registration window closes on October 2nd; Countless .MIAMI domains still available
MIAMI, Sept. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hello.Miami, a company in Wynwood specializing in domain name registrations, has announced that more than 1,000 Miamians have made requests for .MIAMI domains ahead of the official launch scheduled for this Friday, October 2.
Most of the domain registrations have focused on the real estate, technology, healthcare, and legal industries. A .MIAMI domain is just like a traditional .COM, .NET, .ORG, etc. extension, but it identifies the website as made in or about Miami (www.example.miami). This new extension is part of a program developed by ICANN to increase the number of possible domains and was presented by City of Miami mayor Tomas Regalado and Commissioner Francis Suarez at a recent press conference. Other major cities with their own domain extensions include New York, London, and Berlin.
"With a week to go, we're excited by the response from residents and business to the .MIAMI domain," said Gerardo Aristizabal, managing director of Hello.Miami. "There is still a great opportunity for businesses and individuals in Miami to secure their own piece of Miami's digital real estate. Having a .MIAMI domain improves search engine rankings and makes it easier for tourists and locals alike to find products and services online."
Generic domains that are common to Miamians will also gain value over time, and a lot of opportunities are still unclaimed. Domains like futbol.miami, dating.miami, dance.miami, etc. are still up for grabs and will most likely become valuable digital properties as the space gets adopted by local businesses, ventures and startups. Multi-million dollar sales of domains have happened in the past and may happen in the future for .MIAMI owners.
The pre-registration period, available through hello.miami, ends on October 1 and prices for domains start at just $13.99. Individuals and local businesses are strongly encouraged to visit hello.miami and pre-register a domain before prices increase and the most valuable domains are purchased.
