GREEN, Ohio, March 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Let the conversion begin! Southwest Airlines, the busiest airline operating from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK), launched new nonstop service to Atlanta starting yesterday, March 9, 2014. The 6:05 a.m. departure to Atlanta is now aboard Southwest's comfy 143–seat Boeing 737-700 jet. This flight replaces a similar flight operated by wholly owned subsidiary AirTran Airways.
"We are thrilled that Southwest will continue flying to Atlanta from CAK," said airport President and CEO, Rick McQueen. "Atlanta is one of our most popular destinations. Plus, this new service will preserve the lower fares and award-winning service Customers have come to expect to this important business and leisure destination. It is a win-win for the airport and the community."
"The new Southwest service is bringing more options for our Customers to experience our low fares and legendary Customer Service," said Southwest Airlines spokesperson Dan Landson. "As we move closer to the full integration of AirTran, you'll start seeing more Southwest Airlines flights in northeast Ohio while helping get people from the region to more than 90 destinations across the United States and five near-international destinations."
Customers on the inaugural flight got a peachy treat too. Peach pie donuts and coffee were served to all Southwest Customers waiting to board their morning flight. Southwest's legendary low fares are available online at southwest.com and 1-800-I-FLY-SWA.
