Motorola Mobility Employees Around the World Participate in Global Week of Service

Employees in 23 countries support more than 150 community organizations

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Oct. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of the company's deep commitment to supporting and strengthening communities, Motorola Mobility, Inc. (NYSE: MMI) employees in 23 countries around the world will participate in the company's first global community service program. Continuing the tradition of Motorola, Inc's Global Day of Service, Global Week of Service provides employees with a unifying and special moment in time to serve their communities through volunteering and giving back.

During Global Week of Service, local communities will benefit from an energetic burst of Motorola Mobility employee volunteers through a wide range of uplifting activities. The projects will provide a cross section of opportunities for communities to benefit from critical technology programs, health and wellness education, environmental stewardship and timely natural-disaster support.

Beginning tomorrow, for five consecutive days, more than 2,700 Motorola Mobility employees across the globe will devote half the workday to serving their local communities. The week will culminate with Motorola Mobility's U.S. employees participating in the national Make A Difference Day on Oct. 22. Using a new Make A Difference Day Android™ app, developed by Motorola Mobility Foundation, individuals can download planning tools, register project plans or search for projects in need of volunteers.

Motorola Mobility teams will honor Global Week of Service with one day dedicated to each region:

Oct. 18: Asia Pacific
Oct. 19: Europe/Middle East/Africa
Oct. 20: North America
Oct. 21: Latin America
Oct. 22: U.S.: Make a Difference Day

Volunteer projects cover a diverse range of community-engaging activities including:

  • Teaching students how to build Android™ apps in "App Boot Camps" at schools in 12 cities around the world
  • Donating books to a local non-profit benefiting children in Brazil
  • Collecting mobile phones, batteries and accessories for recycling in China
  • Preparing gardens for winter at a botanic garden in Russia
  • Clearing weeds from a nature reserve in the United Kingdom

Additionally, throughout October, Motorola Mobility employees can also take a direct stance against hunger and aid children affected by the East Africa Food Crisis by contributing to Save the Children.

"Motorola Mobility is proud to give back to the communities where we live and work through the Global Week of Service," said Eileen Sweeney, director of the Motorola Mobility Foundation. "I am delighted to see the passion our employees display and the talent they bring to the work they do in communities."
