BONITA SPRINGS, Fla., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) announced that its members excel when it comes to safety during the Association's 40th Annual Meeting. In fact, NACD members were 80 percent better than their non-member industry peers in 2010 and more than twice as safe as compared to all U.S. manufacturing during the same period, according to 2010 data released in late October from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and NACD's 2011 Membership and Safety Report. In fact, NACD members experienced nearly one-half fewer lost workday cases than the industry as a whole.

In addition, NACD members were 20 percent better than the overall industry for total recordable cases (TRC), which includes injuries and illnesses not resulting in a lost work day and NACD members had nearly half as many TRCs as manufacturing as a whole.
NACD's Responsible Distribution program, a signed commitment of membership designed to continuously improve performance in environment, health, safety and security, has over the past twenty years lifted members' safety performance to the forefront of the industry.
"One of our most valued programs at NACD is the Responsible Distribution program," stated NACD Chairman Andrew Skipp, President/CEO of Hubbard-Hall, Inc. "Our company values its employees and wants to provide a safe environment for them. Responsible Distribution not only keeps us safer, but it also increases employee morale and a positive attitude in the workplace. This just makes good business sense to treat employees well and thereby increase the health of the company."
These results are remarkable in a difficult economy. NACD members remained focused on safety and performance even as the markets were continuing to pressure their bottom line. NACD members collectively drove more than 156 million miles and delivered 1.22 tons of product every second.
"Our members prove their commitment to their employees by continuously improving the workplace environment as evidenced in their collective safety statistics," said NACD President Chris Jahn. "Through Responsible Distribution, members strive toward the goal of being the best that they can be. We will continue to support our members and our industry in maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment."
NACD's Annual Meeting drew more than 575 attendees at the Hyatt Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Florida.
The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD), established in 1971, is an international association of chemical distributor companies that purchase and take title to chemical products from manufacturers. Member companies process, formulate, blend, re-package, warehouse, transport, and market these chemical products exclusively for an industrial customer base of approximately 750,000 in the United States. This year, NACD celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Responsible Distribution, an initiative designed by and for members as an independent program specific to the domestic and global needs of the chemical distributor, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Association.
