DETROIT, Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) Board of Trustees has honored Walter McCall and Matt Lee with the Michael Kollins Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016.
NAHC's highest honor, the award commemorates the life of Michael J. Kollins, a noted automotive author and historian affiliated with the Society of Automotive Historians, the Society of Automotive Engineers and the NAHC.
McCall and Lee, both authors and members of the board, were honored with the award by Michael Kollins' son, Richard Kollins, the board's chairman. The ceremony recently took place at the Detroit Public Library's main branch on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.
McCall joined the board as a trustee and editor of Wheels, the journal of the National Automotive History Collection, in 2000. He previously worked as spokesman for Chrysler of Canada and as auto editor for the Windsor Star. He also has published several books on historical fire engines, ambulances, hearses and flower cars.
Lee, currently vice chairman of the NAHC board, joined the organization more than 30 years ago and has served as its treasurer and chairman. He previously was a technical writer for both Ford and General Motors and has written seven books about the history of fire engines.
The NAHC Board of Trustees provides funding to the NAHC which is a special collection of the Detroit Public Library. With more than 600,000 documents, it is the world's most extensive public archive of automotive information.

Located in the Detroit Public Library's Rose and Robert Skillman Branch at 121 Gratiot Avenue in downtown Detroit, the NAHC is open to the public by invitation and serves automotive journalists, authors, collectors and enthusiasts.
