LOS ANGELES, Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- When polled on name suggestions for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's impending bundle of joy, BabyNames.com's community members favored traditional names such as Charlotte, Victoria, Elizabeth and Diana. The last in honor of William's mother, the late Princess Diana.
If William and Kate have an heir instead of an heiress, Babynames.com members like the names George, Charles, Arthur, and William.
Most of the name suggestions echo current naming trends on BabyNames.com's newly released Top Names of 2012, which is based on the favorite names of over half a million BabyNames.com members for the year.
While "Charlotte" and "Liam" remain in the #1 spot, BabyNames founder & owner Jennifer Moss sees other Romantic-era and nature names emerging on the lists. Moss notes the rise in popularity of Aria, Ariana, Aurora, Ruby, Rose and Ivy for girls' names, while Henry, Graham and Rhys are trending upward as boys' names. Moss also points out that names once considered surnames—like Harrison, Mason and Hudson—are also becoming more popular.
Names debuting on the top-100 list for boys include Easton, Felix, Luca, Atticus and August, while Mila, Luna, Hadley, Eloise, Gemma, Adeline and Rose are new to the girls' name lists.
Moss, author of "The One-in a-Million Baby Names Book," suggests that pop culture and celebrity baby-naming may be an influence: Arya is a character in the popular "Game of Thrones" book/TV series, and there are characters named Luna in both the Harry Potter series as well as the HBO show "True Blood"—which also features a character named Hadley.
