NASA Astronaut and Hubble Space Telescope Technician to Speak at WGU Sage Talks

How does fixing farm equipment as a child, maintaining aircraft as a marine in Korea, and saving broken people as a trauma surgeon lead to being the chief mechanic on the Hubble Space Telescope? According to Musgrave, it all starts with what he calls "forward-looking forensics," or designing a life for yourself one little step at a time. This type of thinking helped Musgrave, a kid with no high school diploma, go on to receive 16 years of college, 6 graduate degrees, and 20 honorary doctorates.

"Forward-looking forensics is about preparing for the unknown, acquiring a portfolio of tools and skills, which will allow you to meet the challenges of the unknown," said Musgrave. "It is about growing a creative and powerful set of cross-disciplinary technologies that will help you create the future."

Following the lecture, the public is invited to a reception at The Leonardo, a STEM-based interactive museum within walking distance from the Salt Lake City Library. Attendees are encouraged to mingle, meet the speaker and WGU leaders. Museum admission is included with registration.

The WGU lecture series, Sage Talks, is named after the university's mascot, Sage the Night Owl, and has been created to provide personal and professional development, inspiration, and continuing education opportunities to the community.
