WASHINGTON, March 5, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week, 40 high school seniors will gather in Washington, D.C., to compete for more than $1.8 million in awards and be recognized as our nation's most promising young scientists. These students are finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2018. For the first time, the public exhibition of projects will be held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Founded and produced by Society for Science & the Public, the Regeneron Science Talent Search is the nation's oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors.
WHAT: The 40 finalists in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2018 will display and discuss their research during the public exhibition of projects. Media and the general public are invited to attend and meet the next generation of scientists and engineers who are creating the ideas that could solve society's most urgent challenges.

WHO: The 40 Regeneron Science Talent Search 2018 finalists. These high school seniors hail from 31 schools in 15 states. The finalists' research projects include:
- Artificial intelligence software to detect and measure gender bias in social media
- A study of how traffic delays and collisions could be minimized through vehicular communication with a smart traffic light control
- An examination into the persistence of insecticide contamination in honey and bee foraging sites
- The investigation of a dual therapeutic approach for cardiovascular disease that targets its underlying molecular causes

NEXT STEPS: While in Washington, D.C., the finalists will undergo a rigorous judging process, interact with leading scientists and meet with members of Congress. Winners will be announced at an invitation-only black-tie gala at the National Building Museum on March 13.
