Navy SEAL, Mega Church Pastor Support Military BibleSticks for Armed Forces in Updated Bible on the Battlefield Video

Faith Comes By Hearing video project also features Franklin Graham, Lt. General (Ret.) William Boykin, host Ryan Dobson

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Since 2008, Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) has provided more than 350,000 Military BibleSticks to this nation's brave men and women in uniform – free of charge.  Distributed through the chaplaincy corps, the small, portable digital device contains a dramatized recording of the New Testament and select Psalms.  The ministry provides this to American service members to help them cope with the stresses of military life – including multiple deployments.

Two years ago, FCBH produced a half-hour video – Bible on the Battlefield – to illustrate the need for this device.  Today, they are releasing an updated version that is hosted by Ryan Dobson and features former Navy SEAL, Chad Williams, and Vietnam veteran, Pastor Raul Ries.

Chad Williams, veteran and author of the newly-released book, SEAL of God, knows first-hand about living under the stress of an active warzone and learned what it meant to lose a brother-in-arms before he even deployed.  Just days prior to reporting for duty, he was horrified to see on television images of his mentor, U.S. Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered during an ambush in Fallujah, Iraq.

"I support making this spiritual resource available to our troops. I understand the tremendous pressure they face and what a difference this can make in helping them deal with it," says Williams.

Raul Ries agrees, "Whether in combat, training or on deployment, our servicemen and women have to deal with extraordinary stress, and the Word of God is much needed for them."

Now known as a compassionate pastor with a tender mission, Raul Ries was once a violent, dangerous combatant. In high school, after a brutal fight, Ries was given the "option" to go to jail or join the U.S. Marine Corps. He chose the latter, and at age 19, headed to Vietnam.

As he witnessed the deaths of his fellow Marines, his anger towards the world grew into fury. While he received two Purple Hearts during his honorable service, the impact took its toll on both Ries and his family for years after. (Read more about Ries at the Somebody Loves You site.)

"I've had flashbacks to Vietnam, and I understand how this can affect you. We need the comfort of God's Word all through our experiences," concludes Ries.

FCBH looks to a number of sources for funding to meet the ongoing demand for BibleSticks, including Christian radio and TV campaigns. The ministry also provides video and printed material to churches that can be shared with their congregations, who have been the largest supporters of this project to date.  While working year-round to meet the demand from chaplain requests, FCBH also focuses on holidays meaningful to those serving and their loved ones back home. Upcoming holidays include Veterans Day and National Day of the Bible.

Ryan Dobson co-hosts the nationwide radio program Family Talk with his father, Dr. James Dobson.  He is a bestselling author whose writings examine moral relativism and its role in society today.  Dobson challenges readers to choose what he calls "the ultimate adventure" – Christianity.  He is a graduate of BIOLA University with a Bachelor's degree in Communications.

Raul Ries' daily syndicated radio program, Somebody Loves You, is heard internationally on more than 350 radio stations.  He is the evangelist for the Somebody Loves You Crusades, and pastors Calvary Chapel Golden Springs in Diamond Bar, California – a congregation of more than 14,000 people.

Chad Williams served for five years as a member of SEAL Teams One and Seven, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Iraq.  In his new book SEAL of God, Chad shares his journey through the grueling Naval Ops training and onto the streets of Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close.
