Neal Gerber Eisenberg Adds Securities Veteran David DeMuro
CHICAGO, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP announces the addition of David A. DeMuro as senior counsel in the firm's securities litigation and regulatory practice. DeMuro joins the firm following more than 35 years in leadership roles for the nation's largest financial institutions and regulatory bodies, including American International Group (AIG), Lehman Brothers and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
DeMuro's career includes 10 years as managing director and head of global compliance and regulation at Lehman Brothers during his 25-year tenure, a stint as senior counsel with O'Melveny & Myers in New York, and three years as deputy general counsel for regulatory and government affairs at AIG. DeMuro also spent 10 years with the SEC's Enforcement Division and its Office of General Counsel.
"In his many years of leadership at financial institutions and regulatory authorities, Dave has handled more high-stakes securities matters than most lawyers see in a lifetime," said H. Nicholas Berberian, chair of Neal Gerber Eisenberg's securities litigation and regulatory practice. "He brings a seasoned and global perspective that will greatly benefit our clients and bolster our service offerings for financial institutions."
DeMuro was a member of the Executive Committee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association's (SIFMA) Compliance & Legal Society, serving as president from 2003 to 2004. He is also a former member of the board of trustees for the SIFMA/Wharton Securities Industry Institute. In 2014, DeMuro received the SIFMA Compliance & Legal Society's Alfred J. Rauschman Award.
"Through my time on Wall Street and numerous regulatory bodies and boards, I have worked with some of the best lawyers in the nation, including the securities attorneys at Neal Gerber Eisenberg," said DeMuro. "I am excited to provide strategic counsel and advisory services with this reputable group of attorneys, especially during a time when financial institutions struggle to keep up with changing and complex laws."
DeMuro previously served on FINRA's board of governors, and as chairman of its National Adjudicatory Council. He was also a member of FINRA's Compliance Advisory Group.
DeMuro received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the State Bars of Illinois, New York and Michigan.
