Nearly 70% of Americans Have Found Stains, Mold, Hair and More in Their Hotel Rooms
Quarter of Americans Admit to Cleaning Their Hotel Room with Disinfectant Wipes
NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Whether checking into a hotel for a night or for a weeklong vacation, nearly 9 in 10 (87%) Americans inspect their hotel rooms for cleanliness upon arrival, and 49% of Americans, clean all or part of their hotel rooms themselves, according to a survey issued by Wakefield Research on behalf of Crypton Fabric, a textile technology company which manufacturers eco-friendly performance fabrics[1].

A quarter of American travelers have admitted to using disinfectant wipes while 24% have used tissue or toilet paper to clean a dirty hotel room. Furthermore, 40% of travelers have admitted to bringing something from home – like pillow cases or linens – because they were worried about the cleanliness of their room.
A lack of cleanliness during a hotel stay isn't uncommon. According to Crypton Fabric's recent survey, nearly 7 in 10 travelers have encountered "something gross" in their hotel room, like mold, cockroaches or hair. When it comes to stains, 45% of Americans have found an unidentified stain in their room. As a result, travelers are quick to inspect their hotel room immediately following arrival, with 35% of those who inspect for cleanliness surveying bed sheets and comforters first to make sure these are clean.
