Need for Energy Efficiency Pushes European FHP and IHP Motors Market, finds Frost & Sullivan
Focused product line strategy to help companies achieve differentiation and growth
LONDON, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The intensifying need for energy-efficient motors to reduce operational costs is a key driver in the European fractional horse power (FHP) and integrated horse power (IHP) motors market. Mandatory regulations related to motor energy-efficiency are further boosting growth prospects.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.motors.frost.com), European FHP and IHP Motors Market, finds that the market earned revenues of $5,169.3 million in 2011 and estimates this to reach $6,137.1 million in 2016.
There is widespread demand for compact, competitively-priced, energy-efficient motors.
"With energy efficiency gaining prominence as a key purchasing criterion, it is important for manufacturers to meet European efficiency norms and strategically price their products," explained Frost & Sullivan Industrial Automation & Process Control Research Analyst Ramasubramanian Natarajan. "Competitive pricing and value-added services are the key product differentiators in the market."
The ongoing focus on energy-efficiency and lowering operational costs is the prime factor motivating end users toward advanced FHP and IHP motor designs. Growing concerns about reducing carbon emission is supporting the use of IE3 class or premium efficiency FHP and low voltage (LV) IHP motors. Soaring energy costs are further reinforcing the trend of replacing old motors with newer, highly energy-efficient ones.
However, rising production costs and competition from low-cost Asian competitors is squeezing the profit margins of established European market participants. Economic volatility in Europe also dampens the market's growth potential in the short term.
"Another challenge relates to recent measures undertaken by the Chinese Government to regulate its mammoth permanent magnets industry," cautioned Natarajan. "This move is set to affect synchronous motors manufacturers in Europe who face the uphill task of procuring permanent magnets used in their motors."
Overall, a focused product line strategy will enable companies to achieve differentiation and support growth in key end-user segments. Developing application-specific products are important factors to succeed in the European FHP and IHP motors market in the future.
