NEF CyberLearning Launches First-Ever K-99 STEM Education in Ohio

WASHINGTON, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NEF CyberLearning will be celebrating the inaugural launch of its K-99 STEM education program this week in Steubenville, OH on September 12, 2014.  As the national leader in bridging the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) divides in America's schools, NEF has provided a $5 million dollar grant to Steubenville to fund this community-wide project.

Steubenville's Superintendent Young and her Administration have planned a day full of festivities for NEF's Chairman Dr. Kuttan.  The events include speaking with the middle and high school students followed by an appearance at the football game.

As a STEM expert, Dr. Kuttan's efforts in launching this initiative is in response to reality of the critical role STEM education plays in maintaining U.S. leadership in technology and related areas. The model program in Steubenville will be followed by similar programs across America in the next two years.

The K-99 STEM education program is designed to provide the entire Steubenville community with comprehensive STEM+ (STEM, English, Social Studies, SAT/ACT, IT, Business, Office, Personal and Professional Development) education. According to Dr. Kuttan, "85% of parents in the U.S. want STEM education for their children, yet many disadvantaged schools cannot afford a STEM program. At the same time, many employers have difficulty finding STEM-educated workers. That is why we came up with the community STEM education concept for students, teachers, parents and others in the community." NEF along with its collegiate partner SUNY has developed a program that answers these academic and professional gaps.

NEF's CyberLearning Total System Solution, implemented by its academy partner, the acclaimed State University of New York (SUNY) includes: Personalized learning, Stipends for teachers, Learning management system, Mentoring, Motivational rewards, Teacher training and Tech support. During the 2013-14 school year, NEF's STEM academy students in several schools advanced one grade level in a subject such as math in 20-30 learning hours.

Steubenville students and adults will receive access to the world-class individualized STEM online courses from the top-rated Pearson Education, and IT, Business, and Soft Skills courses from Skillsoft, the global leader.

All participants, completing the personal and professional development programs, will receive course completion certificates from SUNY, and college credits from the local community college for certain courses.
