Nestle Waters North America Volunteer Event "Project Picnic" Benefits Local Stamford Community Event brings together hundreds of volunteers in building picnic tables out of recycled plastic bottles for local parks and non-profit organizations

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Nestle Waters North America (NWNA) today announced "Project Picnic," a volunteer initiative to beautify the community by donating hundreds of picnic tables to local Stamford organizations, and replacing many damaged by Hurricane Sandy. More than 200 NWNA and community organization volunteers will gather together at an event from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM ET to assemble 100 picnic tables made from recycled plastic bottles. NWNA Chairman, President and CEO, Tim Brown, and Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia will be in attendance and speaking at the event at 4:30 pm ET.

"Nearly a year ago the whir of generators was heard throughout this city as residents waited for power to be restored following Hurricane Sandy," said Laura McCafferty, Director, Corporate Communications at Nestle Waters North America. "Today that sound will have a very different meaning as it powers dozens of drills in the hands of hundreds of volunteers who are making their mark in bettering the community."

The company, marking its annual National Volunteer Month, partnered with Cougle's Recycling, Inc. and Keep America Beautiful on Project Picnic. More than 120,000 post-consumer plastic bottles were used to create the recycled lumber for the picnic tables.

The tables will be donated to 10 parks and 14 non-profit organizations around the Stamford area. Recipients include:  City of Stamford Parks and Recreation, Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, Boys & Girls Club of Stamford, Connecticut Humane Society, DOMUS, Gray Farms Nursery School, Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, Inspirica, Kids Helping Kids, Sound Waters, Stamford Animal Shelter, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, Stepping Stones Museum and Mill River Collaborative.

"Nestle employees across the country give thousands of hours each year to make their local communities stronger," said Tim Brown, Chairman, President and CEO of Nestle Waters North America. "Today's event is a great opportunity to work alongside colleagues and community partners, as well as an organization like Cougle's Recycling which does such important work to boost recycling. It's gratifying to know that in the years to come, when local families are enjoying our outdoor parks, they will be using these beautiful tables."

The volunteers will include Tim Brown, Chairman, President and CEO of NWNA, as well as 250 NWNA employees and representatives. Together volunteers are giving 1,000 hours in support of this project. So far this year, NWNA employees have volunteered nearly 13,000 hours.
