Netflix, Hulu or YouTube? The Best Service For Video Streaming
NextAdvisor.com Reviews Online Video & DVD Rental Options
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NextAdvisor.com, a leading consumer and small business information web site, announced today the launch of its new Online Video and DVD Rental category, providing in-depth, independent reviews and comparisons of the best sites for streaming, downloading and renting DVDs of the top movies and TV shows. NextAdvisor's editors tested each service to determine which provides the best value and what users can expect from each.
With streaming video and DVD rentals quickly taking the place of traditional cable and brick-and-mortar video rental stores, the online video and DVD rental business is rapidly growing in popularity, especially among the younger generations.
As the price for cable goes up, switching to an online video subscription can be a more financially sound decision.
"It is more common for people in their 20s to completely forgo the cable companies and rely on online video sites for all their TV and movie viewing needs," said NextAdvisor.com's Director of Content Jeff Hindenach . "With most current TV shows and recently released movies on sites like Hulu and Netflix, there is no reason to pay through the nose for a cable TV subscription, especially if you're not a frequent viewer of time-sensitive programming like sports and news."
Online video sites also make movies more accessible, making it easier to simply choose a movie and watch it without leaving the comfort of your couch. Whether you want to rent or own the movie, most sites offer both options.
"It's the ultimate in instant gratification," says Hindenach. "Instead of having to drive to a Blockbuster or your local video store and wait in line, you just log on to the site, pick which movie you want to watch, and it's instantly playing on your TV. Many of these sites even have movies before they are available on DVD."
NextAdvisor reviewed the top online video and DVD rental sites based on price, selection, ease of use, video quality, viewing options and customer service. The reviewers tested each site by viewing a variety of videos from each service to test how easy it was to view the videos, how clear the video quality was, how many different devices you could view the video on, and how simple it was to find certain videos. They also tested the selection of each service by searching for both popular and obscure movie and TV show titles, as well as each customer service option for each of the sites.
"The best part about many of these sites is that, since online video services have become so mainstream, most of the sites now have apps on Internet-ready TVs, Xbox, Playstation and other devices," says Hindenach. "So, it's really easy to watch you favorite movies with just a few clicks of a button."
