"Neustar is uniquely well-positioned to provide the content and consumer electronics industries with solutions that will provide their customers access to their content anywhere and on any device — and we are delighted to have Tim on board to lead this initiative," said Lisa Hook, Neustar President and COO. "We cut our teeth helping the telecom industry safely, securely and reliably connect people to people, and now we're helping Internet publishers, Hollywood studios and others connect people to their favorite content. The motion picture industry knows and trusts Tim, and he will ensure that other content and distribution industries soon know and trust Neustar for their digital access needs."
Trained as an attorney, Dodd manages digital distribution, digital rights management and cross-industry alliances for Warner Bros. Prior to his work at the studio, Dodd led technology policy for Time Warner Cable. Neustar was founded to meet the technical and operational challenges of the communications industry when the U.S. government mandated that consumers be able to keep their telephone numbers when they switched providers. Today, Neustar is one of the world's largest addressing and policy management companies, operating authoritative databases for virtually all telephone numbers and area codes for the United States and Canada; providing DNS solutions that play a key role in directing and managing traffic on the Internet; and managing the authoritative directories for the .us. and .biz Internet domains, as well as Common Short Codes used by the wireless industry to facilitate text messaging. Neustar was chosen by the DECE to build the digital content locker by which consumers can get access to the entertainment content they own on the device of their choosing.
"In an increasingly mobile and connected world, accessing entertainment content anywhere and on any device is not just a desire; it's an expectation. Whether it's from a phone, a PC or a TV, the process should be easy and predictable. The more than 55 companies spanning studios, retailers, cable operators, device makers and more that make up DECE are working together to make this a reality, and Neustar plays an important role. Tim makes a fantastic addition to the Neustar team to help us fulfill this vision," said Mitch Singer, President of the DECE.
Mr. Dodd will join Neustar on June 21 and will create a new Los Angeles office for the company.
