NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Dec. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For generations, residents and tourists alike have enjoyed dining on the unique hickory smoked meats and other treats offered by the storied New Braunfels Smokehouse. The former rural "ice plant" – where local farmers would bring meats to be stored – eventually blossomed into a thriving mail-order business and local dining hotspot.
A New Braunfels tradition
The popular purveyor of pork, turkey, and other seasoned delectables opened in 1945, as the brainchild of Russell Kemble "Kim" Dunbar and his wife Arabel. They recognized the popularity of Smokemaster Benno Schuennemann's hickory smoked meats and soon orders were rolling in from across Texas and the rest of the nation. A restaurant and gift shop quickly followed, sitting for decades as a local landmark at Hwy 81 and 46. A renovated, updated deli-style restaurant was opened in 2008, in order to carry on the tradition of bringing delicious treats to hungry travelers and locals along the IH-35 corridor.
Quality Products – Outstanding Customer Service – Loyal Employees
Ownership and operation of the New Braunfels Smokehouse has been handed down through generations of family by Kim and Arabel Dunbar. The family takes great pride in offering a variety of top-quality products and offering consistently excellent customer service.
Today, Susan, Kim and Arabel's daughter, along with her husband Dudley Snyder, run the family business. They meet almost every day with Mike Dietert, Vice President and General Manager, to share ideas and make decisions.
Notably, regular employees of the New Braunfels Smokehouse have shown that same pride and loyalty to the family-owned brand. The longevity of some employees is impressive and even staggering. It is a testament to the quality workplace offered by the New Braunfels Smokehouse.
A vision to the future
The New Braunfels Smokehouse shows no signs of stopping. With the advent of the internet, the company has experienced a booming success with the addition of online ordering capabilities to their company website at nbsmokehouse.com, and their recently renovated restaurant and gift shop feeds a steady stream of hungry visitors every day.
The Snyders plan to keep the history and tradition of Kim and Arabel Dunbar's vision alive for decades to come!
