New Foundation Develops Online Resource for Alcoholism
BALTIMORE, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Peter G. Dodge Foundation (PGDF), a non-profit, private charitable foundation started by Hanover Research founder and CEO, Peter G. Dodge, recently launched its new website, www.pgdf.org.
Designed by The Jake Group and developed by PGDF staff members, the website will serve as a resource for individuals suffering from alcohol-use disorder (AUD) as well as for interested family members and friends of those afflicted by AUD. From mutual help groups to pharmacological treatment to alternative and natural methods, the website will provide a summary of each treatment and information on how to take the next step toward a life free from the effects of alcohol addiction.
Additionally, pgdf.org will serve as a blog, providing the community with treatment-related articles and reviews, updates on PGDF-related activities and events, opportunities to engage with others through sharing of recovery experiences, and PGDF grant application information.
"It is amazing how difficult it is to find out anything about alcoholism and/or the options for treating it," Dodge said. "I'm a researcher by trade, and I was as reliant on luck as I was on skill in trying to educate myself. Our goal is to make it much easier to learn about the disease and the ways in which one might recover, and to help match each individual with the means of recovery that is best-suited to them."
The PGDF's mission is 'to help people lead lives free from the effects of alcohol addiction.' Along with the website, the PGDF operates a grant program which funds non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing the field of alcohol treatment. Currently, grant applications are only accepted by invitation, but PGDF Executive Director, Elizabeth Cairns, notes that the Foundation may accept nominations for potential grantees as early as the 2015 grant cycle.
"We are looking for organizations who are doing the best work in their areas of focus, whether that may be youth recovery, awareness building, research and development, or direct service," Cairns said.
The PGDF also supports other events and organizations in selected areas of interest, such as education, medicine, and the arts. Organizations previously sponsored by the PGDF include St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Achieve Kids Triathlon, Christ School, the Telluride Film Festival, and Washington Animal Rescue League.
