NEW YORK, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtually any website is now shoppable with a new, free Google Chrome extension released today called Shoppable: The Universal Shopping Cart®. The privately-developed extension can read any website, including online news sites and blogs, and shows users which products are shoppable and available for immediate purchase through a unified checkout.
When consumers install Shoppable on their Chrome browser, they can use a patent-pending universal checkout that alleviates common hurdles in online shopping, and removes the friction between discovery and purchase.
"As consumers, we're discovering new products all around us. What's frustrating is that sometimes it's incredibly difficult to find and purchase these products," said Heather Marie, founder and CEO of Shoppable. "We know there's a retailer carrying them, but not always which retailer and where it's available. As consumers increasingly demand immediate gratification, this new technology meets them at the point of inspiration. No matter where they are online, Shoppable brings the checkout to the consumer instead of leaving shoppers to find the product, enter in their information repeatedly and complete their purchase. With Shoppable, most users checkout from two or more retailers at once which enables them to complete a purchase more than twice as fast."
Shoppable is currently integrated with more than 200 retailers and merchants, including several of the top 10 retailers in the United States, and catalogs more than 20 million products from all major retail categories.
Instead of a website featuring a "buy" button for products, the Shoppable extension automatically recognizes products available for purchase on a page. To simplify things further, Shoppable allows users to add items to his or her shopping cart without leaving the page or re-directing to specific merchants or retailers.
Consumers can install Shoppable: The Universal Shopping Cart to their Chrome browser by visiting the Chrome Store and searching for the extension. Once installed, users can create an account, save payment and shipping information, create and save wish lists, search and save new items, and connect to Facebook.
Brands and retailers must integrate with Shoppable for the technology to work with their merchandise and receive orders. Although Shoppable accepts orders in a single step for consumers, individual retailers and merchants ship products directly to consumers.
Magic by Shoppable®
In addition to its Google Chrome extension for consumers, Shoppable also offers a B2B solution for digital media companies and bloggers, Magic by Shoppable®, which allows them to automatically add Shoppable links and the Universal Cart to their website or mobile app. Media companies make a commission on any products users discover from their site.
The technology provides publishers a simple way to monetize content without re-directing consumers away from content or the domain, preserving site traffic and session time. Magic by Shoppable also eliminates the need for content publishers to hold inventory or coordinate with e-commerce customer service. It includes a cart and checkout function that is collapsible when not in use.
Shoppable is a New York-based start-up quickly becoming the leader in universal cart technology. Founded in 2011, the company has evolved from a luxury retail service to a market leader in broad e-commerce distribution. By partnering with best-in-class retailers to match products back to consumers looking to purchase, Shoppable allows users to shop, sell and save products from multiple retailers in a single environment. The patent-pending universal checkout provides users a simple path to purchase from multiple sources within a single order and payment process.
