New Network of Leaders to Engage Women & Girls
Inaugural Summit will attract Thousands of Women, Men and Youth
BALTIMORE, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, leaders from across the advocacy, business and philanthropy sectors announced the launch of It's Time Network, an unprecedented, national network of individuals and organizations working to accelerate the full empowerment of women and girls.
"As a country, and around the globe, a balance of women and men working together at decision making tables and across all sectors is needed to address the most pressing issues of our time," said Betsy Hall McKinney, founder of It's Time Network and a long-time philanthropist and activist. "It's time to evolve our democracy. It's time to build a fair economy. It's time to regenerate the Earth. The path forward is gender equity. It's time now."
McKinney, who provides the core vision for It's Time Network, leads the organization along with President, Janet M. Morgan, the former president of Restore the Earth Foundation and CSRWire. The National Advisory Council of It's Time Network is currently a powerful team of 13 leaders, who together bring decades of experience from across sectors, and members of the council include civil rights leader Dolores Huerta; co-founder of #BlackLivesMatter and Special Projects Director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance, Alicia Garza; professional race car driver and environmental activist, Leilani Munter.
"We are at a key moment and pivotal point in our society. If we don't take action, things will get worse," said Dolores Huerta. "This summit is a call to action. We are saying to all women: your participation matters."
It's Time Network is leveraging the collective wisdom, influence and resources of visionary leaders, problem solvers and change agents to catalyze the leadership of women and girls in politics, business and academia. The organization will also launch a Partner City Program designed to ensure that all voices are heard, from grassroots organizations to large, national associations.
From May 1-3, the organization will host its inaugural event, It's Time 2015: The Partnership Summit to Engage Women and Girls in Baltimore, Maryland. With convening partners Girls Inc., Global Fund for Women, Let Girls Lead, Women Donors Network, Women Moving Millions, and Women's Funding Network, the summit will focus on increasing women's collective purchasing, voting and cultural power. The three-day event will feature noted women political leaders, and already has commitments from such leaders as Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and U.S. Representative Donna Edwards.
"This is not just the launch of a network, this is the beginning of women funding our own empowerment. We can and should do this," said Janet Morgan, president of It's Time Network. "Our collective action will ensure women not only have a seat at the decision-making table, but also have a voice to influence change in their communities and our country."
Interviews with It's Time Network leaders and spokespeople are also available by request.
