ATLANTA, June 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- New online giving platform Webithon™, debuted last week, to offer members of the public a new way to donate to their favorite charitable causes.
Billing itself as "Webithon™ - Crowd Sourced Fundraising Made Easy", the concept is best thought of as a telethon for the 21st century.
Built on existing webinar, or online meetings technology including voice and video images over the internet, Webithon™ seeks to create an environment whereby anyone can setup a fundraiser, for any cause, anywhere, anytime.
The first event being held last weekend in support of the J.K. Rowling inspired "Wizard'sWed"1 actually raised $70.00, which was then donated directly to Crowdrise, the social fundraising platform founded by actor, Edward Norton, star of Fight Club.
Founder and CEO of Webithon, Greg Parker said, " We were all very excited to be able to participate with such a great cause and a great group. Ed and his team are doing amazing work and we just want to help where we can."
According to the webithon.org website:
Total number of donors was: 27
Total duration of Webithon Event: 24 hours
Total DOLLARS RAISED: $70.00
The vast majority of these donations was for the sum of $1, which Mr. Parker states, "Was to prove that anyone can do one of these. We just wanted to validate the platform and the concept."
Webithon™ is a division of the Old Fourth Ward Community Association, Inc. A Georgia based non-profit corporation, non-profit EIN 47-3878403.
