CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Fieldglass, Inc., the leading technology provider to procure and manage contingent labor and services, today announced the availability of a new report by Ardent Partners, The State of Contingent Workforce Management 2014: A Framework for Success. The report leverages findings from a survey of nearly 200 contingent workforce buyers to provide a comprehensive overview of today's use of contract talent as well as introduce a framework to help companies better understand and manage their own workforce programs.

The State of Contingent Workforce Management survey confirms that a flexible workforce – including traditional temporary labor, complex contingent labor such as Statements of Work (SOWs) and other project-based workers and independent contractors – is indeed critical to achieving overall business objectives. A total of 86 percent of respondents called contract talent a significant or vital component of their overall workforce.
With this in mind, Ardent Partners created the Contingent Workforce Management Framework as a way to provide structure around each area of the contingent workforce, identifying the labor source, goals and objectives, capabilities, performance metrics and solutions, such as a Vendor Management System (VMS), associated with each.
The Findings
Regarding complex contingent labor such as SOWs and other project-based services, the survey found that VMS users are 45 percent more likely to actively manage supplier identification and onboarding and offboarding processes. The report noted that "VMS technology is the ideal solution for driving efficiencies within complex contingent labor management (via deep analytics, dashboards and SOW/service-specific functionalities)."
In addition, the report suggested that VMS solutions that offer functionality to manage independent contractors provide maximum visibility for buyers, as those companies can access data and reporting across all areas of its contingent workforce.
Tying in to the importance of visibility across the entire contingent workforce, the survey found that total talent management and "agile" analytics to evaluate workforce decisions were the top two predicted changes in the near future.
To learn more about what the future of contingent workforce management might look like and gain insight into these survey findings, Ardent Partners' Chris Dwyer will join Fieldglass for a webinar on Dec. 3 at 1 pm ET, called State of Contingent Workforce Management Report.
