New Site Provides Direct Access to NFL Concussion News for Retired Players and the Public
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Playerinjury.com has been launched to provide former NFL players and the public access to the latest on the NFL concussion lawsuits. The site provides updated news and information regarding the suits filed against the NFL, including court documents.
"With changing information needs and the rapidly growing lawsuits that are taking place, the website provides a centralized location for players and the public to become more informed with regard to the suits," said Craig Mitnick, an attorney who represents over 100 retired NFL players along with Gene Locks of Philadelphia. Locks commented, "Direct access to accurate information is essential because of misleading information or rumors from those that are partially informed."
The National Football League is being accused of hiding medical evidence about the risks of concussions and failing to warn players they risked permanent brain damage if they returned to play too soon after a concussion. Dozens of lawsuits by retired players have been filed nationwide and have all been consolidated in Philadelphia Federal Court. The NFL has vowed to vigorously defend itself.
Rich Miano, a former safety for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons who played 11 seasons in the league said, "We need access to up-to-date information, accurate information, regarding the class action."
The lawsuits from hundreds of players suing the league come as research and public discussion have made brain trauma a prime topic of discussion in professional sports and youth leagues.
The court is awaiting the NFL to formally answer the lawsuits. That court filing is expected within the next month or so.
