New Statewide Poll Shows Michiganders Oppose New Bridge Funded by Michigan and Canadian Governments

Michigan Residents Prefer Privately Funded 2nd Span To Be Built By Ambassador Bridge Company

DETROIT, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A new, statewide poll shows that Michigan residents oppose the idea of building a new Canada to Detroit bridge if the Canadian and Michigan governments would pay for the crossing.  The poll conducted by political consultant Dick Morris surveyed five hundred Michigan residents.  They were asked if they preferred a bridge paid for by the two governments, or a second Ambassador Bridge span that is privately financed.  51.8% of the respondents favored the second Ambassador Bridge span, 27.6% preferred the government owned bridge, and 20.6% did not know.

For another set of poll questions, Mr. Morris also surveyed one thousand Canadian residents.  They were asked if Canada would lend Michigan $550 million to build a bridge, would they support or oppose building the bridge.  63.2% opposed the bridge, 27.8% supported it, and 9% did not know.

The poll was commissioned by the Detroit International Bridge Company.  To see the entire poll and get more information on the bridge issue go to 2billionbridge.com.
