In this new study, honokiol demonstrated suppression of proliferation of human renal cells. In addition, honokiol inhibited migration of highly intrusive renal cells and stimulated RhoA activity, with phosphorylated MLC and excessive formation of actin stress fibers identified in the cells treated with honokiol. Together, these important findings suggest that honokiol suppresses the migration of invasive renal cells through activation of RhoA/ROCK/MLC signaling, warranting further attention and clinical studies to support kidney cellular health.
"This paper is a huge advancement in the research of honokiol," states Isaac Eliaz, MD, coauthor on the study. "This study helps shine light on the true potential of this biologically active small molecule. We are excited to see people interested in this multi-targeted botanical extract and the multitude of promising studies, from cellular to cognitive support."
