NEW YORK, May 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, so educators will benefit from special discounts and freebies that many big brands will offer them as a sign of appreciation. One company, however, is bent on making teacher appreciation a year-round event, and just launched TeachersPrice.com, a website dedicated to helping educators save every day.

TeachersPrice.com helps educators save on everything from meals to clothing at more than 8,000 stores across the U.S. With local, national and online discounts right at their fingertips, teachers, faculty and staff can easily save on clothing, meals, school supplies, technology, textbooks and more.
TeachersPrice.com is an outgrowth of TUN.com, a student discount website that helps college students save on everything from pizza to textbooks. Founder and CEO Peter Corrigan explains: "As we grew our student discount business, we came to the realization that there is a need to help educators save as well." Corrigan points out, "Many businesses recognize this too and want to help by offering Educator Discounts. We have also been able to convince a lot of local businesses to extend their student discount to educators."
Why Brands Should Appreciate Teachers By Giving them a Discount Year-Round
Compared to similarly educated college graduates in the US, elementary and high school teachers earn 33% and 29% less, respectively, according to a recent study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
In addition to earning less than their peers, teachers routinely reach into their own pockets to cover the cost of basic school supplies for their students. According to a recent study by the NPD group, 91% of today's teachers pay for school supplies with their own money.
But it's not just teachers who dig into their own pockets. One study found that 66% of education support professionals (administrators, bus drivers, custodians, lunchroom staff, secretaries, security guards and skilled trades people) also dig into their own pockets to help students, spending an average of $216 per year.
"Given that teachers are underpaid and still subsidize school supply costs, they deserve to get discounts every day - not just during Teacher Appreciation Week," Corrigan declares.
About Teachers Price & TUN
TeachersPrice.com is dedicated to help educators save on everything they buy from local merchants, national retail and other online stores. TeachersPrice.com was created by the same team that started TUN.com, a discount site for college students. With the rising cost of higher education, TUN was created to help college students save, so that they can borrow less. In addition to helping students save at more than 16,000 merchants nationwide, TUN offers scholarships and rewards and also helps them get the cheapest books via its Textbook Save Engine.
