NEW YORK, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Daily News is reporting on three separate fires occurring across three boroughs. ("Queens Dry Cleaner Rages for Nearly Five Hours, as Kitchen That Makes School Lunches Destroyed in Brooklyn Blaze," April 4, 2016). A five-alarm blaze tore through a dry cleaner in Long Island City, Queens, requiring more than 200 firefighters to respond to the scene. It took the FDNY nearly five hours to get the fire under control. Witnesses said the wind was blowing so much smoke for blocks that it was impossible for passers-by to tell where the fire was coming from. The fire spread to an adjacent furniture factory, but officials stated they were able to prevent major damage to the building. Two smoke-eaters suffered minor injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Across the way in Brooklyn, another five-alarm fire in Lefferts Garden, Brooklyn burned down a commercial kitchen that makes school lunches. The fire also took approximately five hours to put out. And finally, a third fire took place on the Upper West Side, but firefighters were able to contain it.
"On days like these I hope everyone remembers to appreciate just how fortunate we are to have such a fearless and efficient fire department," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "Fires are not typically on most people's minds on a daily basis, but events like these show exactly how much damage fires could do if they are not immediately contained. Thankfully, especially given the magnitude and number of fires occurring, nobody appears to have been seriously injured."
"Unfortunately, the FDNY is not always able to put out the flames before people are hurt or buildings are destroyed, and when that happens, it's essential that those who are effected know what to do. While thinking about protecting victims' rights is often, quite understandably, the last thing on their minds as they attempt to recover from shock and injury, but without relatively prompt action, it only gets more difficult to hold the responsible parties accountable. That is why hiring an experienced expert to investigate and advocate on your behalf is so essential; you focus on your recovery and have the peace of mind that a savvy attorney is out there fighting for the compensation you need and deserve. And remember, you only ever pay a fee when you win, so your interests and those of your attorney are closely aligned."
