New York Times States: "Pivotal Point Is Seen as More States Consider Legalizing Marijuana"
Kush Bottles urges industry leaders to act responsibly
SANTA ANA, Calif., March 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Kush Bottles, North America's largest supplier of child-resistant packaging and state approved Philips Rx bottles for the marijuana industry, commented on the recent article in the New York Times stating that opponents of legal marijuana are watching Colorado closely for any signs of problems, which they could utilize and amplify to curb the entire industry.
"Opponents of legalization are mobilizing across the country to slow the momentum, and are keeping a sharp eye on Colorado," the Times reported.
Ben Wu, CEO of Kush Bottles, said that he is urging everyone in the marijuana industry to act responsibly in this time of great scrutiny.
"As an industry, we cannot afford to make any mistakes," Ben stated. "It will take just one incidence of child ingestion of marijuana, or one dispensary selling items in uncertified or non-child resistant containers leading to a preventable accident, to turn public opinion against our industry," he added. "At the very least, a misstep at this juncture could derail other states' efforts at legalization."
Kevin A. Sabet, executive director of Smart Approaches to Marijuana, is spearheading much of the effort to overturn legalization. "We feel that if Oregon or Alaska could be stopped, it would disrupt the whole narrative these groups have that legalization is inevitable," Sabet said. "We could stop that momentum."
Mason Tvert, director of communications for the Marijuana Policy Project, a leading advocate for legalizing marijuana, said it is important to keep the momentum of legalization moving forward. But, he adds, it won't be easy. "This is going to be a multiyear effort."
Kush Bottles has been an outspoken advocate for industry standards, child safety, compliance, and adherence to regulations. "We are lucky to be part of a dynamic, vibrant and fun industry, but we have to remember this is still serious business," Ben commented. "We owe it to our clients and ourselves to protect the integrity and future of legalized marijuana."
