DALLAS, July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- NexBank SSB, a regional bank based in Dallas, Texas, announced that its financial literacy programs reached 1,600 Dallas County students during the 2016-2017 school year. NexBank sponsors instructor-led and digital learning courses at 12 public schools in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods of Dallas County at no cost to the schools. Its programs are taught in both elementary and high school classrooms in Dallas ISD and Garland ISD.
NexBank partners with an educational technology company called EverFi to bring financial literacy courses into the classrooms. MoneyWorks by NexBank is a web-based program that is available in both English and Spanish and uses the latest in simulation and gaming technologies to bring complex financial concepts to life for today's digital generation.
NexBank also sponsors instructor-led courses for senior-level students at Molina High School using the FDIC Money Smart financial education curriculum. NexBank employees volunteer to teach the curriculum which covers topics such as basic banking services, budgeting, credit history and credit cards. To help the senior students with career exploration, NexBank offers internship opportunities and hosts a career day which includes a visit to the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and NexBank corporate office. NexBank associates from Mortgage Banking, Commercial Lending, Loan Operations, Accounting and Legal engage students in discussions and Q&A sessions, providing students with insights into the financial services industry and its career opportunities.
For the upcoming 2017-2018 school year, NexBank plans to expand its digital learning program into new classrooms to reach additional students in Dallas County. It will continue its instructor-led courses at Molina High School for the upcoming Fall and Spring semester.
