NJCU To Host 'NJEDge Best Practices Showcase' On March 13
JERSEY CITY, N.J., Feb. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey City University will host the 16th annual "NJEDge Best Practices Showcase" on Friday, March 13, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., in the Michael B. Gilligan Student Union, 2039 Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City.
Designed for kindergarten through graduate-level educators and institutional researchers, the Showcase will focus on innovative teaching practices and technology-mediated instruction.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Etienne Wenger-Trayner, an independent researcher, author, practitioner, and consultant who is a pioneer and thought leader in the field of social learning theory and its application in various sectors, including business, government, international development, healthcare, and education. He is best known for his work on communities of practice, including the book, Situated Learning: Legitimate Peripheral Participation, which he co-authored with Jean Lave and in which the term "community of practice" was coined.
The Showcase will feature more than 60 presentations, including breakout and poster sessions, by faculty researchers and professional staff who will discuss their latest ideas about teaching and learning for in-person and online courses.
Among the nearly 100 presenters and co-presenters will be 27 NJCU faculty, students, and alumni. Their presentations will cover a wide range of topics, including MMORPGs in K-12 education, humanoid robots in the literacy curriculum, the effective use of web-conferencing technologies, the impact of MOOCs, making online courses accessible to students with disabilities, using technology to teach mathematics, updating the organic laboratory curriculum, and running and sustaining a scholarly journal.
