No On Measure R: RN Candidate for Marin Healthcare District Board Threatened by Marin General Hospital Attorney
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jennifer Hershon, R.N., a candidate for the Marin Healthcare District Board in the upcoming November 4, 2014 election, has received "a threatening phone call" from David Reis, the privately run Marin General Hospital Corporation's attorney.
Ms. Hershon, a former nurse manager at Marin General Hospital, has actively campaigned against Measure R which would provide a thirty year lease to the private, self-appointed Marin General Hospital Board. The private board would then receive $394 million in taxpayer bonds to build a new hospital with little, if any, accountability.
Reis, the Hospital's attorney, warned Ms. Hershon that she must not speak anything considered disparaging against Marin General Hospital during the campaign based on a 2012 separation agreement when she left her employment at the hospital.
Marin General Hospital officials are actively campaigning to pass Measure R for voter approval of a new thirty year lease for the publicly owned District Hospital. But there is active grass roots opposition to the passage of Measure R which now includes opposition by the California Nurses Association.
Now, in addition to a pending lawsuit alleging unlawful termination of a top management official, and violation of Federal laws regarding patient privacy and financial kickbacks, the same hospital officials are directly threatening legal action against a former nurse at the hospital who is a candidate for the publicly elected District Board and who opposes Measure R.
