WASHINGTON, May 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Denise Schrader, Chairman of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC), announced that her organization is leading the search for two of the most outstanding U.S. nurses, one of them from the home care community and the other from hospice. Nominations can be submitted at http://hhna.org or sent by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The closing deadline for nominations is July 15, 2017, and the winners will be announced in late fall.
"Home care and hospice nurses are known as angels for their hard work, competence and caring," said Schrader. "They deserve our applause for the love they give to aged, infirm, disabled and dying Americans. Some of them stand just a little taller because of their resolve to care for those who are so sick they cannot leave home without assistance."
Honoring nurses like these is among the goals of the Home Healthcare Nurses Association (HHNA), a NAHC affiliate where Schrader also serves as chairman. She urges home care and hospice leaders, patients, and family members to tell their stories of special nurses.
Each year NAHC calls for nominations to recognize the nation's most caring, creative, and competent home care and hospice nurses. Any registered nurse may be nominated and considered for the state-level certificate. Nominations will go to an expert committee to narrow the choices to five home care and five hospice nurses who will appear on a ballot. The American public and the home care and hospice communities will then have the chance to vote online.
The National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) is the largest and most-respected organization representing the interests of the nation's more than 35,000 home care and hospice organizations; their more than 2 million nurses, aides, and therapists; and the 14 million patients they serve each year. As the voice of home care and hospice since 1982, NAHC represents community, municipal, state-owned, church- and hospital-affiliated providers. It also speaks for visiting nurse nonprofits, small for-profit agencies, and large corporate chains. It provides legal services, including lawsuits filed in federal courts, and storied advocacy that leads to real results. NAHC's many legislative and judicial coups have led members of Congress from both parties to call NAHC the most effective association in Washington, DC. Learn more at www.nahc.org.
