"It's our ocean, it's our industry, it's our time to help"
WESTHOPE, N.D., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Laurie Cunnington, President of Ward Williston Oil Company announced today that her company will sponsor the Golf for the Gulf Charity Open to raise funds for unemployed oil workers and fishermen in Louisiana.
The Golf for the Gulf Charity Open will be held on August 11, 2010 at the Minot Country Club in Minot, North Dakota. Ron Ness, President of the North Dakota Petroleum Council will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Over 50 oil companies operating in the state have been invited to participate in what could be the first event of its kind. Among dignitaries invited are North Dakota Governor, John Hoeven and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
"We're expecting to raise at least $100,000," said Cunnington. "There are over 9,000 fellow oil workers and at least 6,400 fishermen unable to work because of the spill and the funds we raise will help them with day to day expenses, including business assistance, financial aid and legal assistance in filling out their claims."
Cunnington chose the Greater New Orleans Foundation because of its pristine record and the fact that 100% of all funds raised will go directly to help the men, women and families most affected by the spill.
"It's our country," said Cunnington. "It's our ocean, it's our industry and it's our time to help."
