North Memorial Medical Center named one of Healthgrades 2016 America's 50 Best Hospitals
ROBBINSDALE, Minn., March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, North Memorial Medical Center announced that it has received the Healthgrades 2016 America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction makes North Memorial Medical Center once again one of the top 1% of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
"I am thrilled that North Memorial Medical Center was again recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals. This marks the fifth consecutive year we have received this distinction and it is a testament to our disciplined approach to providing and maintaining superior clinical outcomes for our customers," said Jeff Wicklander, RN, President North Memorial Medical Center. "All of our care teams work together, and with our customers, to provide the highest quality care and this honor recognizes that daily work and commitment."
From 2012 through 2014, Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients, as a group, had a 24.4% lower risk adjusted mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals had performed at the level of America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 164,116 lives could potentially have been saved. For example, patients treated at a hospital that has achieved the America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, a 28.5% lower risk of dying during their hospital stay for Heart Failure than if treated at a hospital that did not receive the award.
Variation in hospital performance exists locally as well as nationally. For example, in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI area, there were 2 hospitals out of 13 eligible hospitals for the America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™.North Memorial Medical Center is among the hospitals in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI area with some of the best quality care across at least 21 of 32 common inpatient conditions and procedures evaluated by Healthgrades over a period of at least 6 years.*
"Our analysis shows that there is tremendous variation in care, so it's important for consumers to carefully research and choose a hospital," said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. "We commend the recipients of the America's 50 Best Hospital Award for delivering exceptional clinical outcomes that help them stand out from their peers in terms of overall clinical performance."
