BOSTON, May 2, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Northern Light® (www.northernlight.com), provider of strategic research platforms for competitive intelligence and market research insights to global enterprises, today announced it has been awarded a U.S. patent for technology it developed to automate the measurement and graphical depiction of overlap between coverage provided by various research firms in their written reports.
Northern Light's solution helps enterprises determine whether a research source provides unique coverage and thus warrants an investment in their content. The analysis is performed by Northern Light's MI Analyst™ machine learning application, which automatically extracts meaning from strategic research documents.
The newly awarded patent is Northern Light's fourth.
"Throughout its 20 year history, Northern Light has been a technology innovator," C. David Seuss, Northern Light's CEO, said. "Initially, our focus was on internet search technology. In recent years, because Northern Light works with clients to aggregate content from hundreds of research firms, we have focused on using the techniques of cognitive computing to automate content analysis of complex documents, such as research and news reports. The extension of this capability to include comparative analysis of content generated by multiple sources was a natural evolution for our company."
The patent describes a system that is configured to receive content generated by a source, identifies meaning loaded entities that are linked to the syntactic structures by associations, calculates a content summary indicating a level of coverage of the meaning loaded entities within the content, and provides a graphical representation of the summary to the system user.
Northern Light's new patent is entitled "Systems and Methods for Analyzing Document Coverage" (U.S. Patent No. 9,575,961). It was awarded to Northern Light by the U.S. Patent Office on Feb. 21, 2017.
