Northrop Grumman Engineer Received Diversity Award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Jose Borges empowers the professional development of colleagues and inspires students to pursue STEM careers
APOPKA, Fla., Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) mechanical engineer, Jose Borges, is the recipient of this year's National Diversity STAR award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). The award was presented last weekend during this year's SHPE National Conference in Indianapolis, Ind.

Borges, a senior mechanical engineering project lead at Northrop Grumman's Laser Systems business unit, was recognized for his commitment to establishing and expanding the influence of employee resource groups and promoting workplace diversity and inclusion.
Since joining Northrop Grumman in 2006, Borges has worked to launch and lead many employee resource groups (ERG), including the Hispanic group ADELANTE and Connect1NG, which promotes networking, employee development, engagement and innovation. For three years, he has mentored high school students toward careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields through a Northrop Grumman volunteer program, the High School Involvement Partnership.

Borges earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
