Kennedy has over twenty years of technology and cyber security leadership experience in startups and at Fortune 500 companies. Combined with his background, Kennedy's drive to create inclusive and diverse teams—along with having three daughters—makes him the ideal president for #brainbabe. "It's clear that we must create actionable change in the cyber security community by unlocking the hidden doors and unconscious biases preventing women from entering and staying in our industry," says Kennedy. "We at #brainbabe are determined to equip the cyber security community with soft skills to improve our environments by creating productive and diverse teams that our daughters, sisters, mothers, and other women would want to join."
"Cyber attackers currently have the advantage because attackers are gender and age unbiased; they don't know each other's race, religion, gender or age. They don't have any relationship other than the technical project they are co-working," says Kennedy. "I want people to recognize that the lack of women represented in the cyber security workforce is a national security issue."
#brainbabe is directly impacting three statistics: Only 10% of the cyber security workforce is women, only 1% of those women are in leadership positions and 53% of women end up leaving the industry.
"Cyber security and technology professions are leading the world's advancements, yet most work environments are severely challenged in regards to communication, compassion, transparency and love," says Deidre Diamond, Founder and CEO of CyberSN and #brainbabe Founder. "When I met Kyle two years ago, I saw a genuine interest in helping make change. Kyle has spent the last few years supporting the #brainbabe efforts to launch programs and promote awareness. His passion for making sure his daughters, and all women, have more opportunity makes me smile every time we talk," said Diamond.
#brainbabe is helping to equalize the ratio of men to women in cyber security through soft skills training and strong partnerships with technical training institutes. These skills encourage the collective security community to grow and will allow the defense of individuals, organizations, the nation, and the world at a greater capacity. "We are supporting the creation of work environments that allow women and men to be open, honest and productive with each other," said Kennedy, about his appointment. "This is why I have joined forces with Deidre Diamond. She embodies these communication skills in her leadership and I've never experienced a better workplace."
