Novak Druce Mourns the Loss of Founding Partner Donald J. Quigg
HOUSTON, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It is with great sadness that Novak Druce shares the news of the death of founding partner Don Quigg, who passed away on September 21, surrounded by family and friends at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
"Don was an inspirational leader and a brilliant lawyer. He leaves behind a legacy of achievements that extend far beyond his career and into his personal life and affections," said co-executive partner Tracy W. Druce. "We extend our thoughts and prayers to his wife Gunja, his daughter Sandy and his son Jim, as well as his grandchildren. Greg and I had the great pleasure of working together with Don for more than 20 years and enjoyed not only his partnership, but his friendship during that time."
"Don contributed greatly to this firm as a knowledgeable counselor in the intellectual property practice and as a dedicated public servant to our legal institutions. We will miss his quick wit and sense of humor as much as his passion for the law and constant pursuit of greatness in everything he did," said managing partner and CEO Gregory V. Novak.
Don achieved many great things during his life including serving our country and making great strides to move intellectual property law forward. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, for which he was awarded a Silver Star in 1944, Don started a 35 year career in Phillips Petroleum Company and ultimately became the General Patent Counsel. Upon retiring from Phillips, Don was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the post of Deputy Commissioner of the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office. After serving in this role for four years, Don was appointed as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks. After leaving his career in public service he entered private practice, leading to his co-founding Novak Druce + Quigg in 2005. At Novak Druce, Don served as senior partner and a member of the executive committee until the time of his death.
A memorial service will be held at Fairlington Presbyterian Church, 3846 King Street, Alexandria, VA on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Services and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a future date.
