NPG Denounces Senate Immigration Bill Cites Critical Need to Limit Future Immigration - Not Expand It

ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 28, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NPG President Donald Mann strongly condemned the U.S. Senate's passage of S. 744 as a "sell-out" of America's future that threatens the population stability of the United States.

Mann said:  "Throughout the months of discussion on this important legislation, NPG has been demanding that Senators use it as a vehicle to not only fix what's broken with our current immigration system but to ensure responsible levels of future immigration.  Toward that end, they have definitely failed to meet this important goal."

Mann continued:  "Sadly, by passing this extremely flawed legislation, the majority of Senators bowed to the demands of powerful interests who demand cheap labor and open doors for tens of millions of new immigrants arriving in our country in the coming decades.  The resulting increase in population, if the bill is enacted, would trigger greater social, economic, and environmental crises that will severely overburden future generations."

He praised Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) for highlighting the fact that while everyone was discussing the estimated 11 million illegals now in our country, the real number – when all immigrant categories are considered – exceeds an overwhelming 55 million people added to our already-overpopulated nation in the next ten years alone.  Mann noted:  "Despite Senator Sessions drawing attention to the raw numbers, the majority of Senators were far too willing to ignore reality in their quest to cater to various special interest groups and score political points.  In all, they have failed to serve our nation's long-term goals."

Finally, Mann criticized the Senate for creating legislation that runs over 1,000 pages and puts almost all implementation of new immigration policies in the hands of the Department of Homeland Security.  He stated:  "DHS is clearly overwhelmed in enforcing present immigration laws.  Expecting them to effectively manage the various new responsibilities outlined in S. 744 only underscores how careless the Senate has been in tackling this important issue."

Mann concluded:  "If there is one positive aspect to result from the immigration debate thus far it is that Speaker Boehner has proclaimed that the U.S. House of Representatives will not use the Senate bill as a template for House action on immigration reform.  Our new focus must be to ensure that House Members enact responsible immigration rules that limit legal immigration to not more than 200,000 annually, and reduce illegal immigration to near zero.  We simply must recognize that there are limits on how many more people can be allowed to enter our country in the future."
