NV Energy Seeks 135 Megawatts of Renewable Energy

Feb 24, 2016, 12:13 ET from NV Energy

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 24, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NV Energy has announced that it is seeking proposals to acquire 35 megawatts of nameplate renewable energy capacity to be owned by NV Energy and to secure long-term Power Purchase Agreements for a minimum of 100 megawatts of nameplate capacity of renewable energy in Nevada.

This solicitation is related to the company's final step to comply with Senate Bill 123, which was enacted by the Nevada Legislature in 2013, and which is resulting in the retirement of 812 megawatts of coal-fired generation by 2019.  The related Emissions Reduction and Capacity Replacement plan resulted in 200 megawatts of additional renewable energy projects that were approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada in late 2015.

As with previous Requests for Proposals, NV energy is using an Independent Evaluator to monitor and oversee the process, which considers the economic benefit to the State of Nevada, the creation of new jobs in Nevada and the best value to NV Energy customers.

NV Energy may award more than 100 megawatts of power purchase agreements for renewable energy, based on specific customer interest for renewable energy. NV Energy will be issuing a solicitation for interest to existing customers and companies looking to do business in Nevada.

The bidding deadline for this new round of Request for Proposals is March 18, 2016.  The winning projects require approval of the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada.  The company anticipates the new projects will be operational by the end of 2017.

Additional details can be found on the company's website at Renewable Energy RFP.
