NEW YORK, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross in Greater New York Region announced that Peter M. Rapaport has been named Chairman of its Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2011. Mr. Rapaport manages funds in the Private Wealth Management division of the Maxim Group.

A generous Red Cross donor and a dedicated supporter, he has served in different capacities on the Red Cross's Brooklyn and Manhattan boards over the past 15 years.

The American Red Cross in Greater NY Region is the busiest Red Cross region in the nation. It responds to an average of eight emergencies per day, including fires, building vacates and weather-related incidents. Additionally, it has deployed well over 125 local volunteers to relief efforts in the wake of deadly tornadoes and floods across the country over the past three months.
Mr. Rapaport holds an MBA in Finance from Portland State University, and an MA and PhD in psychology from the University of Colorado. His wife, Elisa, is on the Long Island Board of the American Red Cross and Co-Chair of the Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders for Greater New York. Together they run the Rapaport Family Charitable Trust. The Rapaports have a 3-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter (who is also a Tiffany Circle member). They live in Rockville Centre, NY.
