NYS Justice Center Violating Multiple Laws-
600 Mile Walk for Justice: Exposing the Corruption
NY Governor Cuomo's Justice Center is Obstructing Justice, Endangering the Welfare of Incompetent and Physically Disabled People and Violating NYS FOIL law.
LEVITTOWN, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In February of this year AP News reported on the staggering numbers of cases of abuse and deaths of the disabled in NY facilities and very little information released by NYS of what was and was not happening with these cases- http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/feb/9/ny-mum-on-thousands-of-reports-of-disabled-abuse/#! Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests since early April of this year for all this public information regarding deaths, physical and sexual abuse etc. is being purposefully withheld for the last 6 months by the Cuomo administration.
Instead of moving to protect New York State's most vulnerable and to finally put many basic safety and abuse prevention measures in place to stop these preventable horrors that continue to happen in NYS in staggering scope since Willowbrook- Gov. Cuomo chose to do the exact opposite. Gov. Cuomo instead renamed and relocated the Commission on Quality of Care (the CQC) which has decades of history of keeping almost everything reported to them from going to; 911, local medical and police first responders, county elected District Attorney's and from going through the normal criminal justice systems. These practices of allowing providers to investigate themselves and then for the State of NY to un-substantiate most of thousands of reported cases of abuse or neglect every month is the main way NYS has been able to practically cover up almost everything happening behind closed doors. The most recent NY Times "Abused & Used" award-winning investigative reporting series should have catapulted Cuomo to finally reform NY State's extremely dangerous mental health care system, but it did not. The discrimination denying immediate emergency 911 services treats 1,000,000 vulnerable New Yorkers with disabilities as sub-human.
The Jonathan Carey Foundation's 600 Mile Walk for Justice started in Buffalo on September 22nd and will be ending in Montauk, Long Island. Tom Cavanagh – a victim of domestic violence is walking all across NY State to expose the Justice Center, the rampant abuse & neglect of the disabled and the massive cover ups – Tom will be walking thru Levittown, L.I. on Oct. 14th where the severe domestic violence was perpetrated against him, his mother and siblings by Tom's father. In the midst of this fight to protect 1,000,000 of our State's most vulnerable that cannot defend themselves Tom's great hope is that he will also be re-united with his brother John whom he has not seen in 35 years- http://www.newsday.com/opinion/columnists/william-f-b-o-reilly/searching-for-john-cavanaugh-william-f-b-o-reilly-1.9490406 .
This is a grass roots effort to expose the NYS Justice Center. This abuse hotline has been acknowledged on tape to be operating fraudulently according NYS Assembly leadership and Oversight & Investigation Chairman Andrew Hevesi- yet it continues to operate this way without being investigated.
