FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Bio-Chem, Inc. (NASDAQ: OBCI) subsidiary Odorstar Technology, LLC announced that the use of its PERFORMACIDE® disinfectant is an effective disinfectant for use on hard non-porous surfaces that can transfer drug resistant Gram-negative bacterium in medical facilities and on home health care equipment. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is currently investigating 18 recent deaths in the state of Wisconsin tied to Elizabethkingia anopheles, a Gram-negative bacterium that can cause pneumonia, and blood stream infections. Gram-negative bacteria can be resistant to multiple drugs and are becoming increasingly resistant to most available antibiotics. PERFORMACIDE® is a hospital grade disinfectant that utilizes activated chlorine dioxide (CLO2) and is effective as a disinfectant against Gram-negative bacterium such as pseudomonas aeruginosa and as a sanitizer against klebsiella pneumonia, and E-Coli.
Ocean Bio-Chem is marketing the first true alternative to the historic use of bleaches and other disinfectants in hospitals and emergency rooms to clean hard-non-porous surfaces. A hospital grade disinfectant, PERFORMACIDE® utilizes a patented chlorine generator pouch that create activated formulas in small, ready to use containers from 32 ounces up to five gallons. The pouches are formulated to deliver premeasured concentrations of CLO2 without having to mix or dilute.
PERFORMACIDE® is effective as a disinfectant against Gram-negative bacterium and as a sanitizer against such killer diseases as Klebsiella pneumonia and E-Coli. PERFORMACIDE® is EPA-registered for use as a disinfectant against acquired infections such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylcoccus aureus (MRSA), Influenza-A virus, Norovirus, HIV-1 and Vanomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE), all of which can be a problem for emergency rooms at hospitals. It also destroys these viruses and bacteria in intensive care units, where patients' diminished immune systems put them at increased risk.
Bleaches, traditionally used for this purpose, leave salt residues on surfaces, PERFORMACIDE® does not. The repeated use of bleaches can lead to a salt build up which will scratch and damage surfaces. Also, there is no need to rinse or wipe down surfaces when using PERFORMACIDE®. Ocean Bio-Chem's new product can sprayed directly on door knobs, furniture, stretchers, wheelchairs, patient chairs and hard non-porous surfaces. It is also approved for use in ambulances and first responder equipment. PERFORMACIDE® is also fragrance free and will not leave behind a disagreeable odor.
Ocean Bio-Chem's PERFORMACIDE® also is excellent to clean a patient's room, including bathroom surfaces, cabinets, chairs, chrome, door knobs, faucets, mirrors and table tops. PERFORMACIDE® is also EPA registered as effective against rotavirus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and mycobacterium bovis (TB). Also it is very useful to clean doctor's offices and pharmacies.
"Our PERFORMACIDE® is simply the answer to huge problems of contamination where health care is dispensed," said Peter Dornau, President and CEO. "We have the solution!"
