SAN JOSE, Calif., May 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Oclaro, Inc. (NASDAQ: OCLR), a tier-one provider and innovator of optical communications and laser solutions, today announced the release of the HL63163DG red laser diode at 633 nm wavelength providing 100 mW single-transverse-mode optical output power for the biomedical, inspection and measurement marketplace. The Oclaro HL63163DG red laser presents a compact alternative to existing bulky Helium-Neon (He-Ne) gas lasers that exhibit lower energy efficiency.
Leveraging existing technologies used for Oclaro lasers in the 637 to 642 nm range, the focus in developing the HL63163DG laser was to enable system designers to increase measurement accuracy, stability and speed essential for biomedical and inspection applications, while reducing power consumption and footprint. These laser performance characteristics have traditionally been experienced only while using large He-Ne gas lasers. The newly-introduced HL63163DG now offers low power consumption of only 0.4 W at 100 mW operation in the 633 nm wavelength band, and comes in a highly-compact 5.6 mm-diameter TO industry-standard package.
