OJP Annual Report Released

The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) released its 2009 Annual Report, Forward Momentum, highlighting OJP's commitment to outreach and collaboration with the criminal and juvenile justice fields. National Weed & Seed Strategy Evaluation Released

OJP released the Research Triangle Institute's (RTI International) independent evaluation of the National Weed and Seed Strategy, which examined its effectiveness in 187 Weed and Seed sites and 87 graduated sites. The evaluation includes a broad overview of Weed and Seed sites as well as an in-depth analysis of 13 Weed and Seed sites and 13 comparison neighborhoods. The study was conducted using site visits, a web-based survey of a total of 1,353 stakeholders, and a survey of 2,200 residents. American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting

Laurie O. Robinson, Assistant Attorney General for OJP; John Laub, Director of the National Institute of Justice and James P. Lynch, the Director of the Bureau of Justice Statistics will speak at the American Society of Criminology 2010 Annual Meeting Nov. 17-20 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis Hotel. The theme for the meeting is "Crime and Social Institutions." The meeting will encourage the exchange of research, teaching and practice of the dissemination of criminological knowledge. Bureau of Justice Assistance's National Conference                                                               OJP's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) will hold its 2010 National Conference, entitled Advancing Justice through Evidence and Innovation, Dec. 6–8 in Washington, D.C., at the Washington Hilton Hotel. The conference will emphasize how evidence and innovation can be leveraged to improve the Nation's justice systems and to ensure community safety, and how BJA funding is supporting this approach across the Nation. Following the National Conference, Dec. 8 from 1-5 p.m., BJA will host an Intellectual Property Forum. The forum will highlight the damaging effects of this type of crime to the economy, the health and safety risks it poses to the public, and its relationship with gangs and organized crime.
