One-Day Free Health Care Clinic Seeking Medical and Non-Medical Volunteers

MADISON, Wis., July 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) is seeking both medical and non-medical volunteers for their one–day free health care clinic being held in Madison on Saturday, August 9^th.  The clinic is looking for both medical and non-medical volunteers including, physicians' assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, other medical professionals, interpreters and anyone else willing to help. The clinic will be held in the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, on Saturday, August 9th, from 10am – 5pm in Madison. Volunteers will be needed between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.; multiple shifts and tasks are available for volunteering.

"This clinic event is a great way to highlight the work done by the 50+ clinics that provide care to the underserved throughout Wisconsin," says Dr. Katherine Gaulke, Chairwoman of the Wisconsin Association of Free & Charitable Clinic Steering Committee.  "Despite Wisconsin's and the ACA's attempts to insure all residents, there remains a significant uninsured population in Wisconsin. In fact, the Robert Woods Foundation estimated that there are at least 220,000 uninsured in our state.  Our clinics continue to be the safety-net provider and critical access point to help those that are left behind.  This one-day clinic is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community so that those without care can receive the care and medications they need while also being connected to our state's great safety-net network and resources."

The NAFC will sponsor the Clinic in Madison. This free clinic event is not just for the sick but also for anyone who is uninsured or has little to no access to medical care and has not seen a doctor recently. The clinic will offer basic preventive primary medical care (including medical exams, diabetes tests, cholesterol tests, EKGs, pregnancy tests and more), 3 free months of medication, health education, on-site insurance navigators and connection to follow up care and the area's safety net community resources.  Patients are encouraged to call 800-340-1301 to schedule an appointment.
