One in Four Americans Needs a Vacation after a Summer Family Trip, According to New Research from Cambria Suites
On Average, Small Children Ask Parents "Are we there yet?" 13 Times on a Trip
SILVER SPRING, Md., June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With summer travel season kicking into gear, Cambria Suites has shed light on family vacation plans in a recent survey,* including the good, the bad and the slightly irritating. Among all survey respondents who have ever taken a family summer vacation (49 percent), nearly one quarter of adults (24 percent) report that they usually need a vacation when they return from a family trip. Among adults living with children under the age of 18, the number increases to 29 percent. Seven percent of respondents even look forward to a "solo" business trip as a way to recover from a family vacation.
Research shows that kids ask their parents "Are we there yet?" an average of nine times during a week-long (seven day) family vacation, according to survey respondents who have been on a family vacation and have at least one child under the age of 18 living in their household. Parents with children six years old and younger can expect to be asked "Are we there yet?" about 13 times during a week-long trip.
Experiences of summer family vacations are overall very positive, as revealed by the new Cambria Suites research. More than half (65 percent) of Americans with family vacation experience find them relaxing and admit that there is "nothing better" than a great family vacation.
"Industry data shows that consumers are regaining confidence in the economy and more families are taking a vacation this year compared to last year," explains Michael Murphy, senior vice president of Cambria Suites. "It's safe to say that the great tradition of the summer family vacation is on its way back."
To help consumers take to the road this summer, no matter how near or far their vacation plans may be taking them, Choice Hotels, franchisor of the Cambria Suites brand, is offering travelers the chance to earn a $50 gift card after just two separate stays. When guests sign up for the Choice Privileges rewards program and stay two separate times from now through August 15, 2012 at any Choice brand property, they'll earn enough bonus rewards points that they can redeem for a $50 gift card of choice to use towards gas, dining or shopping.**
All Cambria Suites hotels feature Reflect, a casual dining and gathering area serving a dinner menu, liquor, wine, beer, freshly prepared grab-and-go gourmet salads and sandwiches, a barista bar featuring Wolfgang Puck® coffee and a hot breakfast buffet; Refresh, a state-of-the-art fitness center with an elegant pool and hot tub/spa area; and Refill, a 24-7 convenience store that offers energy drinks, snacks and sundries.
In addition, each room is a spacious suite that's larger than average and offers the latest in technology, including two flat-screen LCD televisions and MediaHub™ plug-and-play technology, allowing guests to connect their laptop, MP3 player, game console, digital camera or CD/DVD player hassle-free. Free high-speed wired and wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel so that guests can stay connected even while vacationing.
*This online survey was conducted by Leflein Associates, Inc., an independent market research company, May 16-18, 2012, as part of a national omnibus study. A total of 1,050 surveys were completed.
