FRAMINGHAM, Mass., Dec. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Cumberland Farms reminded high school seniors from its eight-state service area that time is running out to apply for the company's popular Believe and Achieve Scholarship Program. The December 15, 2015 application deadline is only a week away, and the convenience store retailer is ready to help make the Class of 2016's dreams of attending college a reality.

Cumberland Farms started the Believe and Achieve Scholarship program in 2006, and the company has already awarded scholarships to more than 1,000 college-bound young adults, amounting to over $1 million in donations. Further information about the 2015 program, including entry criteria and application instructions, is available online at https://cumberlandfarms.scholarshipamerica.org/.

"Having already helped more than 1,000 students reach the next level in their education during the nine years we have been running the Believe and Achieve Scholarship Program, our motivation for helping the next group of students is at an all-time high," said Ari Haseotes, CEO of the Cumberland Gulf Group of Companies. "We could not be more proud of the impact we have made to date, and we look forward to continuing our efforts with the Class of 2016. I urge all ambitious young students to apply before the December 15th deadline."

As part of Cumberland Farms' ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in the lives of motivated young adults, the Believe and Achieve program awards $1,000 scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors across its eight-state service area. This year, 130 students from Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont will receive a total of $130,000 in scholarships.

The program is open to students entering a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college, university or vocational-technical school in the fall of 2016 who live within 30 miles of any Cumberland Farms location. Scholarships are awarded based on both academic performance as well as financial need, and the winners are notified in the spring of 2016. Previous winners have attended a wide range of institutions including Cornell, Yale, Central Maine Community College, the University of Michigan, Florida State University, the University of Pennsylvania, the College of New Jersey, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University and more.

Cumberland Farms formalized its "Doing Good" Corporate Giving Program nine years ago, and the company has since donated millions of dollars in both cash and products to causes that directly benefit thousands of young people through scholarships, direct-to-school programs, youth sports, local fundraising and more.
