SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An analysis released today by GiftedandTalented.com shows that the company's tutor supported K-7 math learning program helps students advance an average of two complete grade levels beyond their chronological grade. GiftedandTalented.com's independent study math learning program, which provides online courseware only, helps students accelerate one full grade level.
The analysis was conducted using five years of data from students who completed at least 25 hours of coursework. G&T.com recommends student spend an average of 1-2 hours per week on the programs, but each student works at his or her own pace. The analysis measured the progression of more than 7,500 students in the tutor-supported offering and more than 16,500 students participating in independent study.
GiftedandTalented.com's online K-12 courses were developed by top learning scientists at Stanford University as part of its Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY), a research program dedicated to understanding how advanced students learn and developing computer-based multimedia courses to support their needs. In 2013, Stanford selected Redbird Advanced Learning to modernize the technology behind EPGY and make the courses accessible to a broader set of students worldwide via GiftedandTalented.com. Ongoing research at Stanford University continues to inform the development of programs and the delivery of services at G&T.com.
"The findings of this analysis are truly extraordinary, yet they confirm what we have known for some time: our courses are uniquely effective at accelerating students toward mathematical mastery, ultimately helping them meet their maximum potential," said Matthew Mugo Fields, Founder and President of GiftedandTalented.com. "We are excited to carry forward Stanford EPGY's tradition of excellence with GiftedandTalented.com's updated courseware that will pair EPGY's deep research foundation with the latest in learning technology."
The findings of GiftedandTalented.com's analysis complement the findings of independent research conducted by New York University in March of this year, which showed that EPGY users scored higher on average – in some cases by 45 percent – on standardized achievement tests than those who do not use program. NYU's study also found that more than 90 percent of EPGY students received 4 or 5 on their Calculus AB (92 percent) and Calculus BC (100 percent) exams, which is twice the national average. GiftedandTalented.com will be releasing the next generation of its K-7 Mathematics programs, Redbird Mathematics – Advanced Edition, in early 2015.
